This special edition Discovery Kit will introduce children to some of the stories surrounding Giant Rock, a natural wonder in Landers. Each story is accompanied by an activity.
Activities will teach the geology of Giant Rock and explore the lives of two men: one who lived under Giant Rock and the other who talked to aliens and built a rejuvenation machine.
The activities are either scientific, creative, artistic, a bit crazy or a combination of all of it, but certainly fun.
The pick-up day for free Discovery Kits is Saturday, September 4, 2021.
We will only give out one Discovery Kit per household.
There is a limited amount of bags available. Please, only sign-up if you are able to retrieve your Discovery Kit on the pick-up day.
Important Note: The bags are designed for students with a reading level of 2nd grade or above.
This Discovery Kit is provided in conjunction with a California Humanities funded project called: “Our Giant Rock: A Community Touchstone in the Mojave,” California Humanities is a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
