Long-time La Quinta resident Katie Barrows will talk about local desert wildflowers and how they are being affected by climate change. The presentation will also touch on how each of us can encourage conservation and appreciation of desert wildflowers and simple ways we can reduce our “carbon footprint.”
Katie has been involved in sharing her passion for our natural open spaces, conserving desert habitats, and encouraging appreciation for the desert ecology since moving to La Quinta in 1986. She teaches native plant identification/ecology courses at College of the Desert and has been active in promoting conservation of desert ecosystems. She has recently retired from her position as Director of Environmental Resources at the Coachella Valley Association of Governments/Coachella Valley Conservation Commission.
