Ever wanted to pet a coyote? Curious how sharp a mountain lion’s teeth are? Now’s your chance to connect with the natural world of the Morongo Basin in a whole new way at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum’s upcoming First Saturday Cart Talks beginning Saturday, April 4, 2026. This informal, drop-in program invites guests to come face-to-fang with fascinating objects from the museum’s education collection and discover the stories these objects tell about local wildlife, ecosystems, and the struggle for survival in the Mojave Desert.

Designed to spark curiosity and invite conversation, First Saturday Cart Talks offers a memorable, interactive experience that encourages visitors to engage their senses, make observations, ask questions, and wonder. Inquisitive minds of all ages can get up close with a curated selection of natural history items, from skulls and scat to teeth and tracks and other intriguing artifacts. Guided by knowledgeable staff and educators, this free, sensory-based encounter is perfect for anyone eager to explore science in a tactile way.

No registration is required! Simply stop by the museum at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. and discover something unexpected.  Cart Talks will occur the first Saturdays in April, May, June, August, and September.
