April 23, 2022, 10:00 am - April 24, 2022, 5:00 pm

The Hi-Desert Nature Museum is delivering a new way to learn about the Mojave Desert. Join the museum twice a year for an all-encompassing micro-event called “Museum Spotlight,” which delves into relevant topics for the High Desert Community. The first event, which will take place from April 20th to 23rd, 2022, will focus on ‘Reptiles of the Mojave’ and offers free educational opportunities for everyone.

The museum will kick off the event with the opening of a display about Mojave reptiles and a presentation of several rare vintage images captured by renowned Desert Magazine photographer Hans Baerwald from the museum’s permanent collection. The display will open on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Those who wish to view the display are welcome to come during the museum’s regular business hours.

On Friday, April 22, 2022, the museum will host a reptile-themed kids’ craft and a movie showing of Johnny Depp’s Rango©. Light refreshments, including popcorn, will be offered. The craft will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m., followed by the movie showing at 6:00 p.m. in the Cholla Room at the Yucca Valley Community Center.

On Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., the event will culminate with a 2-lecture/demonstration series presented by the museum’s resident biologist Stefanie Ritter and by local rattlesnake wrangler Danielle Wall.  Live reptiles will be present. Lectures will take place in the Cholla Room at the Yucca Valley Community Center.
