Brown Bag Lunch Lecture – March 17, 2016

Talking Trash

Presented by Karyl Newman

DEHSART – the word TRASHED spelled backwards – addresses the issue of illegal dumping in our desert. What is left? Where? Why? How can we prevent fly tipping and what does that even mean? Attend this trash talk and we will answer these questions together. The project began three years ago with Smartphone images of dumpsites, tossed trash and blown debris in the Antelope Valley. Today these geo-tagged photos from across the Mojave are plotted on a map using GPS co-ordinates at http://dehsart.com/dehsart-map, which can be used by municipalities to triage sites.

Bring your lunch, bring your friends, or just bring yourself to our Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series once a month.  Speakers will present topics of special interest for high desert residents. The lectures start at 12:00 p.m. Admission is  $ 5 – Free for Members –  beverages will be served.
