Desert Animal Figure Drawing Drop-In Workshops

August 6, 2026, 1:00 pm - August 27, 2026, 4:00 pm
Desert Animal Figure Drawing - black sketch of a roadrunner

Step into the museum and sharpen your skills in this relaxed, drop-in figure drawing workshop inspired by the museum’s desert animal taxidermy dioramas.  Held every Thursday in August from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., the informal workshops invite artists of all levels to study the forms, textures, and motions of desert animals up close—no desert heat required.

Working directly from the museum’s lifelike displays, participants will explore techniques for capturing anatomy, movement, and character, from the curve of a Black-tailed jackrabbit’s spine to the intricate patterning of reptiles and birds.  Each session offers guided prompts and optional instruction, while still leaving plenty of room for personal exploration and style.

Bring your favorite drawing materials and settle in for an afternoon of observation, creativity, and quiet focus among the desert’s most fascinating inhabitants. No registration required, just drop in and draw.

Held on every Thursday in August from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th
