Food Chain Forensics: Owl Pellet Dissection

Saturday, November 1, 2025
A great horned owl sits on a branch. Food Chain Forensics: Owl Pellet Dissection

Calling all gumshoes! On Saturday, November 1, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Hi Desert Nature Museum will host the workshop Food Chain Forensics: Owl Pellet Dissection. This drop-in experience puts guests into the role of investigator as they snoop for clues of past deadly deeds in sterilized owl pellets. Armed with a magnifying glass and a pair of tweezers, sleuths will uncover the undigested bones, feathers, fur and teeth of critters unfortunate enough to fall prey to one of the most efficient hunters in the world: the owl.

It’s a real Hoot-dunit! The workshop is $10 per person and open to adults and children ages 6 and up. Children aged 6-9 years old will require adult assistance.

Registration is required, and space is limited, so be sure to register early. One never knows what they will find, but a good mystery awaits!
