Get ready for a day of fun-filled thrills when the Hi-Desert Nature Museum and Town of Yucca Valley Recreation Department transform the Museum and Yucca Valley Community Center into a friendly fest for the return of this year’s Halloween Spooktacular. Avian Behavior Conservancy will present two live flight presentations (12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.) in addition to an education booth with several bird species including a crested caracara, falcon, hawk, raven, and owls.
Participants of all ages can go trick-or-treating through a haunted desert as they learn about nocturnal animals, explore a haunted pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin to paint, come face-to-face with creepy crawly critters, and enjoy face painting, a photo booth, costume contest, spooky crafts, games, and more! All activities are free to the public. Food vendors will be onsite with delectable delights to purchase.
Get into the Halloween spirit and dress to impress for the Spooktacular costume contest! Awards will be presented in four age divisions: ages 0-3 years, 4-7 years, 8-11 years, and 12+/group entries. The three divisions ages 11 and under will compete for awards in four categories: Best in Show, Best Themed (Nocturnal Animals or Birds of Prey), Funniest, and Most Original. Ages 12+ and group entries will each compete for a Best in Show award in their division. This is an all ages, family-friendly event, so no inappropriate or gory costumes please. Registration is accepted in the courtyard at the event in from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Space is limited, and judging begins at 3:15 p.m.
