Artists and creators of all ages, mark your calendars! If you live in the Morongo Basin and have an interest in recycling, repurposing, and reimaging, now is your opportunity to share your artistic transformations at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum’s 20th annual recycled art exhibition, this year titled, “Wondrous Waste.”
Art Submission Rules and Regulations
- Submission priority will be given to artists residing in the Morongo Basin and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the museum’s temporary gallery space is filled. Drop-off for Basin residents is Wednesday, March 11th through Saturday, March 14th from 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. Submissions from artists residing outside the Morongo Basin will be accepted on Saturday, March 14th from 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. if space allows.
- Limit of two (2) works of art per person.
- Artwork must have a footprint size of less than 12 sq ft (both hanging and free-standing). Pieces exceeding this size *may* be accepted at the discretion of the Collections & Exhibits Coordinator, Charlie Rossow, with prior approval.
- Hanging artwork must come with all hardware already attached, and works will only be displayed if they can be safely and easily hung.
- All freestanding artwork must be able to stand on its own safely.
- The Hi-Desert Nature Museum will not accept works that include sexual content, combustible or toxic materials, live animal/plant matter, perishable food products, or any other harmful items that could potentially damage the Museum’s other collections, facility, visitors, or staff. The Town of Yucca Valley and/or the HDNM staff reserve the right to refuse artwork that could be considered inappropriate, harmful, or disturbing to staff or viewers.
Entries from Morongo Basin artists can be brought to the Museum from March 11-14, 2026. Entries from artists outside the Morongo Basin will be accepted March 14th if space is available.
The exhibition, “Wondrous Waste: 2026 Recycled Art Exhibition,” will run from Saturday, March 21 through Saturday, May 9, 2026.
